The BP Spill: art and a documentary emerge

October 26, 2010

What do you get when you combine the ageless adage “Oil & Water Do Not Mix” with oil from the BP spill?

Art. London based graphic designer, Anthony Burrill, used oil from the Gulf of Mexico after BP’s spill, to create these bold posters.

Anthony only created 200 of them though, so if you’d like a poster, visit Gulf of Mexico 2010. All proceeds go to the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana, a non-profit dedicated to restoring the Gulf of Mexico’s coastal wetlands.

And if you aren’t interested in purchasing a poster but are wondering what the heck went awry with the BP explosion in the Gulf, PBS will air “The Spill” tonight, a documentary which will examine the trail that led to the disaster. Check your local listings.

This is, of course, a documentary which BP is praying you’ll ignore. In a speech yesterday, BP CEO Robert Dudley warned London’s business leaders that there would be an upcoming documentary from PBS FRONTLINE which would paint an unflattering picture of  BP’s safety record. A few days before he made this statement, Dudley declined to testify before a House committee that is investigating the BP explosion in the Gulf of Mexico. Read Dudley’s LETTER TO THE CHAIRMAN.

This all breeds the question; could the BP spill have been prevented? Tune in tonight and find out.
